The Indian government has announced the list of India’s most prestigious award Bharat Ratna for 2024. This year the highest-ever number of people awarded with Bharat Ratna Award. The government has announced that Chaudhary Charan Singh, PV Narasimha Rao, former Bihar chief minister Karpoori Thakur, LK Advani, and MS Swaminathan will be awarded with Bharat Ratna Award for 2024.

 

P. V. Narasimha Rao

P. V. Narasimha Rao was born on 28 June 1921, in Telangana state. Rao was vital in shaping India’s economic reform in the 1990s. 

Rao’s tenure marked a very crucial period in Indian history. India faced a severe economic crisis during the 1990s. Rao implemented significant economic reforms known as the “New Economic Policy”. Rao is very well known for liberalizing the Indian economy for foreign investment. These economic reforms laid the foundation for India’s economic growth in the coming decades

 

Karpoori Thakur

Karpoori Thakur, a prominent Indian politician, was born on January 24, 1924, in Bihar. 

Thakur advocated for the rights of the underprivileged communities. He played a crucial role in the establishment of the Mandal Commission. It was aimed to address the issues related to economic backwardness among the Other Backward Classes (OBCs) in India.

During his tenure as chief minister, Thakur focused on implementing policies to uplift the social and economic status of the disadvantaged sections of society.

 

Chaudhary Charan Singh

Chaudhary Charan Singh, an Indian politician was born on December 23, 1902,  in Uttar Pradesh.

From 1979 to 1980, Charan Singh served as the Prime Minister of India. He focused on agricultural reforms and rural development. 

He also initiated the ‘Kisan Credit Card’ scheme for the farmers. It was aimed at providing affordable credit to farmers.

 

MS Swaminathan

Dr. Mankombu Sambasivan Swaminathan was born on August 7, 1925, in Tamil Nadu. In India, MS Swaminathan is also well known as the “Father of the Green Revolution”

Dr. Swaminathan’s work has played an important role in India’s transformation from being a food-deficient country to a self-sufficient one. He invented high-yielding varieties of wheat and rice which played an instrumental role in addressing food scarcity.

Lal Krishna Advani

Lal Krishna Advani is a prominent Indian leader born on November 8, 1927.LK Advani began his political career in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He played a pivotal role in shaping the ideology of the BJP.

In the 1990s, Advani advocated for the construction of a Ram temple at the disputed site in Ayodhya. He led the Ram Mandir Rath Yatra which helped the BJP to stand in national politics.
